Microbiological Control Products

Complete protection against biofilm and material deterioration due to microbial attack

How It Helps

Reduce the downtime and enhance runnability and efficiency
WITH ADVANCED BIO MANAGEMENT

The papermaking process provides an ideal environment for the growth of various microorganisms. Some of these microorganisms can create multiple problems, including biofilm (slime) outbreaks, deterioration of additives, production of hazardous gases, microbial-induced corrosion, contamination of finished paper products, etc.

The high presence of aerobic bacteria triggers the rapid development of biofilm (slime). The exopolysaccharides (EPS) in biofilm act as a binder to keep the biofilm together and as a protective shield. When this biofilm is sloughed off the surface, it can cause a loss of efficiency and a drop in product quality. The result can be sheet breaks and downtime. Controlling biofilm production and accumulation contributes significantly to the overall performance of a microbiological control program.

Our complete microbiological control program provides better protection over various microbiological-related problems and allows:

  • No slime-related breaks/holes/defects hence Improved runnability.
  • Improve paper quality due to reduced level of rejects / off-grade paper.
  • Longer time between shuts.
  • Efficient use of additives.
  • No odor in the surrounding environment or the paper.
  • Less microbiological loads to wastewater treatment.

Application Areas

Microbiological-related problems are found in every grade of paper, tissue, or paperboard. The application of biocide as slime control program is typical for papermakers, in addition to additive preservation and freshwater sterilization. On the other hand, microbiological control is not crucial in pulp mills except in particular situations such as wet lap machines and pulp preservation.

The use of microbiological control agents in Pulp mills serves the following purposes:

  • Preservation of wet lap before shipment to paper mills.
  • Preservation of wet pulp in storage due to emergent situations.
  • Control of biofilm to prevent nozzles from plugging.

Products

Amazon's AmiCide BX comprises microbiological control agents based on synergistic blends of non-oxidizing products, including halogens and non-halogen based oxidizers, and stabilized oxidizers.

We also have the AmiSperse mono-chloramine based oxidizer and bio-dispersants. Our range includes those suitable for producing specialty-grade papers, such as food contact, liquid packaging, mold-proof paper, tissues, cigarettes etc.

Our professionals will work with you to select the most appropriate products to meet your needs. Additional technical support includes onsite monitoring tailored to your specific needs/program design, effective measurements of various microbiological, physical and chemical parameters to provide timely and accurate program evaluation.
